Important Information if Your Pet Received
One or More Vaccinations Today.

The purpose of immunizations is to stimulate the immune system, an inherently inflammatory process, to prepare it for potential future exposure to the organism(s) being vaccinated against.

Typical or common side effects to this would be:
  • Sore, tender, or scratching around injection site
      • Behind shoulders -- dogs
      • On legs -- cats
  • Mild fever for one or two days post vaccinations.
    • Lethargy or listlessness
    • Lack of appetitie
  • Some joint stiffness or muscle soreness

These symptoms are not serious and may not be noticed.

There are medications that can be given at time of vaccination
to prevent or minimize reactions.

In addtition you may notice:
  • Short or smooth haired pets you may notice an injection site bump/lump that disappears within 24 hours after vaccinations -- fluid from vaccination

  • A lump/bump may appear at the injection site(s) a week later, and may be felt for several weeks to two months -- it is an immune reation to the vaccine(s). Just message the lump/bump and it should go away. If not contact our office.

  • A lump/bump may appear at the injection site(s) in cats several months to many years later. This may be a vaccine associated sarcoma. Please contact our office immediately (at the phone number below) for any lump/bump that develops around the shoulder (especially the right side) or back hips or rear legs.
